The shortest distance between two points... doesn't apply to motorcycles.
My friend Bob Rx from paltalk just sent me this e-mail. He has been a good friend of mine for several years. I like to share it with you all.
This is what I did Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday Night. Most of the roads in the Wassilon-Berlin- Coshockton- I-70 were just horse buggy roads that would be tight for two horse buggies to pass each other. Lots of turns and surprises over the crests of the roads.... sometimes a beautiful view of a valley, sometimes horses with new foals, sometimes a horse cart in my lane that requires a quick speed adjustment while avoiding fresh deposits of Mackinaw natural fudge.
Just the same, it is always a joy to be in awe of the roads, mother nature, a completely different way of life while riding on a day with golden sunshine. Combine it together with my other hobby (flying) and "It just doesn't get any better than this" as the beer commercials say. All of Saturday afternoon was spent on small side-roads through the counties until I just ran out of daylight to play with.
An early dinner around 4:30 in Berlin, Ohio at Boyd & Wurthmann's Restaurant. I have been there before with my wife and if the local Amish eat there, you know it is good stuff on the table. Don't push yourself away from the table until you have a piece of home-made pie. (Your are going to work it off riding right??) :o) Riding further south and east to Coshocton, Ohio, trying to watch the road while taking in the views of another era that normally seems long ago and out of place. Men and older children using push mowers to mow lawns. Hard enough on a city lawn... looks like real work in front of a large farm house up and down a hill from the road. Another stop in Coshocton, Ohio at Roscoe Village for a look see. A leather shop there makes nice goods like a leather snap band with clip to hold your other keys in place while riding, belts, cases, etc.
I worked my way cross country till I eventually ran into I-70. The good roads are now behind me but close to 9 p.m. time to find a hotel near Springfield, Ohio. That leaves me a 20 minute ride to the Air Force Base in the morning. I can sleep in a little the museum doesn't open till 10 a.m. Plus I was up early Saturday for an 20K mile service appointment for my Jetta TDI before I left on this trip.
I walked around many exhibits and also signed up to see Air Force One from the previous U.S. Presidents. Need to show ID to do this part of the tour since that hangar is on Wright Patterson airbase proper. They check your name against known threats prior to access to the base....no photographs allowed until INSIDE the hangar.
After the tour, backtrack to US 68 and Young's Dairy...just a light lunch and a fudge brownie sundae, I am set for a return to Michigan up US 68 to Findlay then I 75.... Time to rest...work tomorrow.
Bob
